Golden Milk Recipe Instant and Overnight Version - ideal for cold fall and winter days
One of my favourite drink to support throat and give the and instant warming feeling. The spices have number of benefits but avoid inhaling them powdered as they can irritate lung.
Golden Milk - instant • 1 cup of vegetable milk (avoid soya milk), if opting for cow’s or goats milk choose whole fat but water is also ok • 1 tsp ghee or coconut oil, or butter • 1⁄4 to 1⁄2 tsp of turmeric powder • 1⁄4 tsp cinnamon powder (avoid Cassia*, opt for Ceylon) • Large pinch or two of ginger, nutmeg (optional), clove and cardamom powder • Small pinch of saffron (optional) and salt (optional)
• Raw honey to taste • Small pinch of cayenne or chilli pepper or black pepper powder for a kick (optional)
Put milk and spice in a pot and bring to boil, simmer for 5 minutes. Add honey only when the milk is drinkable temperature.
It is great in evening but also for sipping throughout the day, but especially beneficial when feeling flu or cold like starting
Experiment by adding extra spices or thinning it with water
Golden milk – overnight (more flavor, more potent)
In the evening place the ingredients below in a pot, cover, bring to boil and switch of the heat, and let it sit overnight
• 2 cups of vegetable milk or water (avoid soya milk), if opting for cow’s or goats milk choose whole fat • 2 tsp ghee or coconut oil, or butter • 1 tsp of organic turmeric powder, or fresh sliced turmeric root -3 cm • 2 cm fresh ginger root sliced
• 2 cinnamon sticks (avoid Cassia*, opt for Ceylon) • Pinch of nutmeg, • 3 cloves • 3 cardamom pods • Small pinch of saffron (optional) and salt
• 4 dried pitted dates
• 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder (avoid Cassia*, opt for Ceylon)
For final taste in the morning:
Raw honey to taste, a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and cardamom, cayenne or chili pepper or black pepper powder for a kick
Don’t cook with honey! Just warm it up
Avoid inhaling cinnamon powder –it can irritate the lungs
* Cassia Cinnamon contains coumarin, which can be toxic
